Welcome to The Side Business Momentum Newsletter!

The simple breakdown nobody gives you, but everyone needs.

I’ve been on TikTok way too much lately, saving dinner ideas.

And not the pretty ones either. If a recipe has perfect lighting and a bunch of spices, I would have to Google, I keep scrolling.

But if someone says “chicken, rice, one can of something,” that is going straight on my grocery list.

Because that is the kind of meal I can actually make on a random Tuesday when everyone is hungry, and I am already tired.

And honestly, email marketing is the exact same way.

People keep showing the fancy version, the kind you look at and think, “yeah, I’m never doing all that.”

So let’s stop looking at the five-star gourmet funnels. Let’s talk about the simple version.

The version you will actually use.

The version that works.

The Three Things

Email marketing comes down to three types of emails.

Only three. That is all you need.

1. The Welcome Email: The Warm-Up

This is the email people get right after they sign up.

It’s an automated email, meaning you write it once and it gets sent on its own forever. For now, you only need one. The longer sequence can come down the line.

Its job is simple: Set Expectations

  • Say Hello & Thank You: Greet them and confirm they've successfully signed up.

  • Establish the Relationship: Tell them who you are, what the newsletter helps them achieve, and why they should listen to you.

  • Set the Schedule: Clearly state what you send (your content) and how often (weekly, bi-weekly). This prevents surprises and unsubscribes.

  • Action Step: Ask them a simple question to get their first reply, which tells the inbox (like Gmail or Outlook) that you are a friend, not spam.

2. Your Regular Emails: The Trust Engine

These are the emails (also known as newsletters) you send every week, or every other week, whatever consistent schedule you picked.

Consistency is your only goal right now. You might hear these called Newsletters. This is your most valuable platform.

Its job is simple: Build Value and Habit

  • Show Up: Consistency is the key. By showing up reliably, you earn a spot in their routine.

  • Teach/Entertain: This is where you deliver the value you promised, the quick tips, the insight, the simple takeaways.

  • Build the Bond: This is how people get to know your voice, your personality, and what it’s like to work with you. They trust you because you keep delivering on your promise.

Your regular emails (aka newsletter) are the most important part of your whole system. If you stop sending these, people forget about you, and the entire chain breaks.

3. Your Sales Emails: The Cash Register

These go out only when you are selling something: a new offer, a program, or a few open spots in a service. These are not your regular emails. They are an event.

Its job is simple: Make the Ask

  • Connect the Dots: These emails don't come out of nowhere. They show subscribers how your offer solves the exact problem you’ve been talking about in your regular emails.

  • Leverage Trust: They work because you have already been showing up with consistent, helpful content. People buy from someone they trust and hear from often.

  • Clear Call: These emails require a clear, single Call-to-Action (Buy Now, Sign Up Here) that tells people exactly what to do next.

How It All Works Together

  1. Someone signs up. Your Welcome Email will be sent right away.

  2. They start getting your Regular Emails each week. They begin to trust you.

  3. When you have something to sell, you send Sales Emails. They buy because they already know you.

That is the whole thing. No tricks. No secret steps.

  • Welcome email brings them in.

  • Regular emails build trust.

  • Sales emails make the money.

Your regular emails keep everything moving.

Your Focus This Week

Make sure your single Welcome Email is ready to go. If it is not, finish setting it up this week.

How to Set It Up: In your email provider (like Flodesk, Kit (formerly ConvertKit), Mailchimp, or Beehiiv), you need to find the setting that lets you send an email automatically the moment someone signs up. This is usually called a Sequence or an Automation. You only have to do it once!

Next week, I am tackling the big question: Someone just joined your list. Now what? I will break down exactly what to write in that single Welcome Email so you don't stare at a blank screen.

Reply and tell me which of the three is tripping you up the most right now: Welcome, Regular, or Sales?
