You know that friend who always says "we should hang out sometime"?

And then it never happens.

Because "sometime" isn't a plan.

But the friend who texts "coffee Tuesday at 2pm at that place on Main Street"? That actually happens.

Your signup form works the same way.

"Subscribe to my newsletter" is the "sometime" version. It sounds nice, but nobody knows what they're signing up for.

So they don't sign up.

When your signup form tells people exactly what they're getting? That's the Tuesday at 2pm version.

People know if it's for them. And the ones who want it sign up.

What your signup form actually needs to say

People aren't looking for more emails. They already have too many.

They're looking for emails that help them with something specific.

When your signup form is vague, you're asking them to take a chance on you.

When it's specific, you're showing them exactly what they're getting.

Your signup form needs three things:

1. What they get

Not "my newsletter." Not "updates."

The actual thing.

Vague: Join my newsletter

Specific: Get my Friday email with simple email strategies to turn your side business into steady income

2. What it helps them do

"Weekly emails" isn't enough. Weekly emails that help them WHAT?

Vague: Subscribe for tips

Specific: Weekly email helping women turn their side business into steady income with simple email strategies that fit your real life

3. Why it's worth their email address

This is usually built into the first two, but sometimes you need to spell it out.

Vague: Get updates

Specific: So you can stop trying everything and actually do what works

That's it. Three things. Not a novel. Not a sales pitch.

Just clear words about what they're getting and why it matters.

Here's what mine says now

"Stop Trying Everything. Start Doing What Actually Works. Get the free Side Business Momentum Newsletter helping women turn their side business into steady income with simple email strategies that actually fit your real life. Delivered every Friday."

It tells you what you get (a free newsletter with simple email strategies), what it helps you do (turn your side business into steady income), and who it's for (women juggling their real lives, not chasing perfection).

Someone reading that knows immediately if it's for them or not.

The people who sign up actually want to hear from me.

That's the difference between "sometime" and "Tuesday at 2pm."

Where to actually put your signup form & how to get the link

Okay, you wrote your signup form. Now what?

First, you need the actual link to share.

Every email platform gives you a signup page with a link.

In Beehiiv, it's under "Audience" and “Website".” In Kit (formerly ConvertKit), it's under "Grow" then "Landing Pages." I have both platforms so I know where those are.

If you can't find it in yours, look at the platform's knowledge center.

Find that page. Copy that link.

That's your signup link. That's what you're going to share everywhere.

You can customize it but that's a whole other thing so let's keep it simple for now and use the link generated from them.

You don't need a website

A lot of people think they need a fancy website before they can start growing their list.

You don't.

Your email platform gives you a signup page. That page has a link. Share that link.

Done.

Where to put your link

The pattern is simple: wherever people find you → your email signup.

Social media → email

Podcasts → email

YouTube → email

In-person events or workshops → email

Collaborations or partnerships → email

You get the gist.

Put your link everywhere people might discover you. Your bio, your posts, your captions, your email signature, your DMs when someone asks about your work. Everywhere.

The point isn't to spam people with your link.

The point is to make it easy for people who WANT to join to actually find it.

What to say when you share it

You don't need to make a big announcement every time.

Just add it naturally, like this:

"Want to stop trying everything and start doing what works? Join the Side Business Momentum Newsletter: [link]"

"If this helped, I send one email every Friday with strategies like this: [link]"

"Ready to turn your side business into real income? Get my weekly email: [link]"

Keep it simple. Tell them what they'll get. Give them the link.

Your Focus This Week

Step 1: Rewrite your signup form using those three things: what they get, what it helps them do, who its for, and why it's worth it.

Step 2: Find your signup link in your email platform.

Step 3: Put that link in at least two places this week. Start with your social bio and one post.

If you don't have an email platform yet: Set one up this week. Beehiiv, Kit, Flodesk, and Mailchimp all have free plans. Pick one, set it up, and get your signup link.

If you're not sure what to say: Reply to this email and tell me what you help people with. I'll help you figure out the words.

Your signup form is how people join you. Make it easy for them to say yes!
